Traditional felt relies on overlapping seams, sealed joints at upstands and lapped edges at outlets. Every one is a potential failure point. Over time they open up - particularly through the thermal cycling of summer heat and winter cold.
GRP is laminated in place. There are no seams. The entire surface - upstands, outlets, edges, corners - is one continuous waterproof skin. A correctly installed GRP roof does not leak.
We install using 600gsm chopped strand matting as standard. Some contractors use lighter 450gsm to cut costs. The difference shows up in durability and impact resistance over the roof's lifetime, not immediately.
GRP installation is a controlled process. The order and timing matter.
We replace any rotten or soft deck boards. The surface is checked for movement and moisture content. A weak or wet deck means a failing roof regardless of what goes on top of it.
Drip trims are fitted at all edges and upstands before lamination. These bond into the GRP surface so edges are fully integrated, not just surface-sealed.
Resin and 600gsm mat are applied in a single process across the whole surface including all details. Applied on dry days above 5 degrees for correct cure. We don't cut this short.
Once the laminate has cured, the coloured topcoat goes on. We inspect the finished surface before leaving and issue your guarantee certificate on completion.
Weather note: GRP must be applied in dry conditions above 5 degrees. We won't install in rain or frost. If weather causes a delay we reschedule - we won't compromise the installation to keep to a date.
"Smooth experience from beginning to end. Promptly inspected, gave a detailed overview, realistic timelines. Site was left spotless. No hesitation in recommending."
A properly installed GRP roof should last 25-40 years. The main variable is installation quality - deck preparation, falls and mat weight. We use 600gsm as standard, which is heavier than the minimum specification.
Sometimes, if the deck is completely dry and sound. More often we recommend stripping the felt first to check deck condition - trapped moisture under a new GRP layer causes problems. We tell you what we find.
Topcoats are available in most RAL colours. Grey, green and stone are most common for domestic roofs. We'll show you samples at the quote stage.
No. GRP bonds to the deck directly and doesn't drum. Most people can't hear rain on a GRP roof from inside the building.
Yes - this is one of its advantages. Because GRP is laminated in place it follows any shape: pipes, vents, rooflights, parapets, internal corners. Every detail gets the same seamless treatment.
10-year insurance-backed guarantee through the Confederation of Roofing Contractors. Stays valid even if we ceased trading.
